Information
Of the 4 itineraries for Sant’Agata (Massa Lubrense), this one does not start from the centre of Sorrento but from circuit 22 (Villages of the Sorrento valley), at the crossroads Palomba / Cala / Atigliana where you enter Via Zatri just 40 metres further on. Follow this lane for 1.3 km with an elevation gain of 175 metres until you reach Via Nastro Azzurro. The first part (pedestrian) has a gradient of almost 20%, the second (road) only 8%. 200 metres into the first part of the climb you will see an ancient limestone kiln on your left. The route continues through thick vegetation which even so gives you views of the Bay of Naples. When you come to the first houses, a paved road will lead you to the main road. Continue straight ahead along the road which for the most part has no pavement. At the large junction by the entrance of the Due Golfi Hotel you will find a bus stop. The map also indicates the route from Piazza Tasso to the starting point of this itinerary.
How to get to the starting point
From the port: Proceed uphill along via Luigi De Maio. After 400 metres you will come to a hairpin bend with steps opposite taking you directly to Piazza Tasso. You can also take the shuttle bus to the centre if you prefer. Once there follow itinerary 22.
From Sorrento station: Go down the steps of Piazza De Curtis to Corso Italia. Turn left along the Corso and walk for around 400 metres, until you arrive in Piazza Tasso. Once there follow itinerary 22.

Description of the itinerary
Lovely views but steep!

We walked this itinerary in reverse in November 2022. It is mostly on roads and paved paths and is easy to follow. The views of the Bay of Naples are wonderful for most of the way down. The bottom section before rejoining itinerary 22 is very steep and we had to go slowly and carefully. The surfaces are mostly good. This is a lovely walk to return to Sorrento from Sant Agata when combined with route 22.
